Many newcomers, students, workers, and families in Ontario pay immigration consultants for help with applications, work permits, study permits, LMIA matters, or permanent residence pathways. In some cases, the consultant takes money but does not provide the promised service, stops responding, or refuses to refund the client.
This article explains when an immigration-related payment dispute may become a monetary claim in Ontario Small Claims Court. Canadian Standard does not provide immigration advice or immigration representation. We assist with monetary claims against consultants when clients paid for services that were not properly delivered.
What Can Clients Do If an Immigration Consultant Stops Responding?
In Ontario, payment disputes involving immigration consultants may arise when services are delayed, communication stops, or promised work is never completed. Clients should first preserve all agreements, invoices, receipts, emails, text messages, retainer contracts, and payment confirmations.
In many situations, a formal demand letter requesting a refund or explanation may become an important first step before legal proceedings are considered. Proper documentation may later become important evidence in Small Claims Court.
